Sochi midfielder Kirill Kravtsov told Match TV that despite a grueling journey, his team managed to stand their ground against Zenit in Sunday’s away match of the 29th round of the MIR RPL. Sochi lost 1-2, leaving them at the bottom of the table with 21 points and unable to finish higher than 15th this season.
“It was a good match. We started well and even scored. It’s a shame we couldn’t hold onto the lead. Zenit needed points just as much as we did. But I think we looked respectable in Saint Petersburg,” Kravtsov said.
Asked what held them back from taking at least one point, he replied: “To some extent, the very difficult trip influenced us. It was one of the toughest in my career—traveling nearly thirty hours to play at the Gazprom Arena. But those are just talks; we set them aside, went out to play, and gave a worthy fight.”
When asked about Sochi’s recent improvement, Kravtsov explained: “Something like chemistry and energy has emerged inside the team. We started winning, and that united us even more.”
In the final round of the season, Sochi will host Akhmat on May 17.
