Mark Vientos and Carson Benge delivered RBI doubles in a two-run 10th inning, lifting the New York Mets to a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night in Phoenix.

Vientos doubled on the first pitch from Kevin Ginkel (1-2), scoring the automatic runner in the 10th. Benge followed with a ground-rule double that plated Vidal Brujan, who entered as a pinch runner for Vientos.

Devin Williams (2-1) worked a scoreless ninth on eight pitches to earn the win, and Tobias Myers struck out two in a perfect 10th for his first career save.

Vientos and Arizona’s Nolan Arenado accounted for all the early scoring with solo home runs in the second inning.

The Mets, who entered the game tied with San Francisco for the worst record in baseball at 14-23, have now won their past two series and will aim for a third straight victory on Saturday.

The Diamondbacks have dropped 12 of their last 16 games.

Mets starter Nolan McLean allowed one run on three hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one. He also hit a batter in his 100-pitch outing.

Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson gave up one run on two hits in 6 2/3 innings. He departed after walking Benge with two outs in the seventh of a 1-1 game—his only walk—and matched a season high with seven strikeouts.

Juan Morillo struck out two of the four batters he faced after replacing Nelson, extending his home scoreless streak to 16 games over two seasons, the longest active streak in the majors.

Vientos led off the second with a 401-foot homer, his fifth of the season. Nelson retired 17 of the next 18 batters, with Francisco Alvarez’s third-inning single the only blemish until Benge walked in the seventh.

Arenado tied the game 1-1 with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the second.

McLean did not allow another hit until Ildemaro Vargas singled with one out in the sixth. He had hit Corbin Carroll with a pitch in the fourth and walked Gabriel Moreno in the fifth.

The Diamondbacks loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh on a Jose Fernandez single and two walks by Luke Weaver, but Geraldo Perdomo grounded out to end the threat.

Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte was scratched from the lineup late due to illness.
