Elliot Anderson: Forest boss Vitor Pereira gives biggest clue on star’s future

Elliot Anderson’s future at Nottingham Forest appears increasingly uncertain after manager Vitor Pereira’s latest comments following the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United.

Manchester United have enjoyed a strong finish to the season, all but securing third place with only two matches remaining. A single point from their games against Nottingham Forest or Brighton & Hove Albion would mathematically guarantee that position. Additionally, a draw between Aston Villa and Liverpool on Friday night would also seal the deal, as those two sides are the only teams capable of catching United.

Despite their solid league standing, United are actively looking to strengthen their squad in the summer, particularly in midfield. With Casemiro set to leave and Manuel Ugarte’s future at Old Trafford looking bleak, Kobbie Mainoo is currently the only established central midfielder at the club. Reports suggest United could target up to three midfielders in the upcoming transfer window.

The Red Devils have been linked to several Premier League-based midfielders, including Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, and Joao Gomes, as well as foreign talents like Atalanta’s Ederson. However, one name that has consistently appeared on their radar is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, widely seen as the club’s dream midfield target.

Any potential deal for Anderson, however, could be complicated by two major obstacles: rival interest from Manchester City and Forest’s likely hefty price tag, especially now that they have secured Premier League safety.

Speaking after Forest’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle, manager Vitor Pereira offered the biggest indication yet that the England international might be on his way out. Pereira said, “It’s difficult for me, and everybody, to understand what he is feeling inside of him.”

He added, “I believe that he is honouring his mother, going inside the pitch and running until the last metre, until the last breath. I cannot say whether he will stay, I don’t have the answer. I know he deserves the top of the world.”

Pereira further emphasized, “I know that he’s our player, and we need to enjoy him because I have worked with the top talent players, but to find a top player with this character is not easy. I’m not thinking about the next season. I’m thinking about finishing this season in the best position that we can.”

Anderson’s performance against Newcastle was closely watched, with statistics provided by Sofascore.
