Rafa Yuste, vice president of Barcelona, has revealed that extending head coach Hansi Flick’s contract through 2028 will be “very straightforward,” adding that a formal announcement is merely a matter of time.
Speaking to Catalunya Ràdio shortly after the team clinched the Spanish league title for the second consecutive season under Flick, Yuste said:
“Today I want to remember Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez, because they began turning what we are experiencing now into reality. Flick has successfully integrated into the city and the club’s values. Beyond his seriousness, he gives tremendous experience to the young players. We have a squad made mostly of homegrown talents who feel the colors and connect deeply with the fans.”
Yuste noted that negotiations with Flick’s agent, Pini Zahavi, are proceeding smoothly. “The contract renewal will be very easy. Only a few small details remain, and when Deco wants it, we will make it official.”
The vice president also touched on the German coach’s personal loss following his father’s recent death. “I haven’t spoken with him since the passing, but I gave him a hug full of sympathy. I believe he wanted to be on the pitch to dedicate this victory to his father.”
Yuste described the title win as a “wonderful dream” and explained that he chose to skip celebrations at the Luz de Gas nightclub out of respect for Flick and a friend of his who passed away over the weekend.
On potential new signings, Yuste said: “I woke up today thinking we have the best team in the world. Transfers are the responsibility of Deco, Bojan, the coach, and Alejandro Echevarría, who is doing excellent work.”
He emphasized the stabilizing role of president Joan Laporta. “Memory is very short. Not long ago we couldn’t even dream this could become reality. We are all working together to rebuild Barcelona.”
Yuste urged the players to aim for 100 points in the league “as a tribute to Tito Vilanova,” while praising the conduct of Real Madrid players and honorary president Pirri, calling it “exemplary.”
He concluded: “Everyone has their own issues at home; we must focus only on our own matters.”
