Report: Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea Appointment Could See Seven Players Depart, Including Garnacho, Gittens, and Guiu

Posted on: 05/13/2026

If Xabi Alonso becomes Chelsea’s next head coach, he could immediately offload up to seven players. The former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid boss has emerged as a candidate for the Stamford Bridge managerial post, with the Blues searching for a long-term successor to Liam Rosenior.

According to football.london, Chelsea have included Alonso on their shortlist for the west London role. The club aims to finalize the new manager’s appointment before the end of next month, allowing sufficient time to streamline the squad during the transfer window.

It is understood that Chelsea are targeting a center-back, a midfielder, and a left winger this summer. However, the five-member sporting leadership team is currently focused on the managerial recruitment process.

Meanwhile, several players in the dressing room face an uncertain future. Many have failed to impress this season, putting Chelsea at risk of failing to qualify for any UEFA club competition. With two Premier League matches and an FA Cup final remaining, they still have a chance to prove themselves to the new boss. football.london has identified seven Chelsea players who could be offloaded this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho joined Chelsea for £40 million from Manchester United last summer and has faced unfair scrutiny during his time at Stamford Bridge. The winger arrived with a reputation as a troublemaker, but his attitude has been exemplary. He consistently appears in dangerous positions in the attacking third, and as he matures, he may reduce his wastefulness in front of goal. However, to reach a higher level, Chelsea still need to sign a world-class left winger this summer.

Bynoe-Gittens arrived from Borussia Dortmund for around £50 million but has missed most of the season through injury. Even when fit, the 21-year-old has rarely been given opportunities, leaving Garnacho to shoulder the burden.

Marc Guiu has had little playing time this season. The 20-year-old striker joined from Barcelona for just £5 million in July 2024 and showed promise, but suffered an injury just as he was about to earn a starting spot. Chelsea loaned him to Sunderland to gain more minutes, but he was quickly recalled when Nicolas Jackson was loaned to Bayern Munich. The Spaniard has started only five matches this season, accumulating just over 500 minutes of playing time.

Benoît Badiashile could be offloaded as part of a long-overdue defensive overhaul. The 25-year-old joined from Monaco for £35 million in January 2023 but has failed to make a lasting impression at Stamford Bridge. With Levi Colwill returning from injury and Hato emerging as a more reliable option, Badiashile’s prospects look bleak. The Frenchman also struggles to transition to a right-center-back role, as Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, and Josh Acheampong compete for the new manager’s trust.

Tosin Adarabioyo has had few highlights this season, apart from a decent performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United earlier this month. The 28-year-old joined Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, meaning any potential sale would count as a pure profit on the books.

The new manager may also offload up to three current Chelsea loanees. While Axel Disasi has impressed at West Ham United, Tyrique George has not shone at Everton, and Nicolas Jackson’s future remains uncertain.
