Luciano was direct and called for a strong response from São Paulo following their derby defeat to Corinthians on Sunday (10). The Tricolor lost 3-2 at Neo Química Arena. The striker spoke candidly in a post-match interview in the mixed zone.
“To be honest, we need to improve in many areas. When we lose, it’s everyone’s fault, not just the coach’s,” he said. “At the start of the year, many said São Paulo would fight against relegation, but we’ve been in the top four since the beginning of the championship. Some big clubs are in the relegation zone. We need to improve in several aspects, and I hope we can do that in the next game to come away with a win.”
Luciano also emphasized that he still believes the team can compete for titles. He stated that São Paulo has the quality to achieve something bigger. On Wednesday (13), the team will decide its Copa do Brasil future against Juventude.
“Of course we can. When you’re at São Paulo, you have to fight for titles. Our squad is very good. God willing, at the end of the season we’ll be celebrating a title, and I’ll come back to talk to you about it,” he added.

How the game unfolded
The first Majestoso of the 2026 Brasileirão ended with Corinthians defeating São Paulo 3-2. Played on a cold Sunday night (10) on Mother’s Day, the classic heated up on the pitch with refereeing controversies, player arguments, and an important result for Fernando Diniz’s side, which could escape the relegation zone if Vasco loses their match this round. Raniele, Matheuzinho, and Breno Bidon scored for Timão, while Luciano and an own goal from Matheuzinho accounted for Tricolor’s goals.
