Just a week ago, Kristoffer Reitan entered the Cadillac Championship as the final player in the field and wasn’t even qualified for this week’s Truist Championship. Two weeks prior, Alex Fitzpatrick was facing a grueling travel itinerary from Louisiana to Turkey for back-to-back events. Yet, fate placed these two unlikely contenders in the final grouping Sunday at Quail Hollow, battling for the $3.6 million first-place prize.

Fitzpatrick’s surge began three weeks ago at the Zurich Classic, where he played alongside his brother Matt, who was already enjoying a hot season with two victories. The siblings won that event, and Alex followed with a ninth-place finish in Miami before taking the lead through 54 holes at Quail Hollow.

Reitan, meanwhile, only secured his spot in Miami—his first Signature Event—after Jake Knapp withdrew just before the first round. He earned enough FedEx Cup points to qualify for this week’s tournament, but after finishing at the Cadillac Championship on Sunday, he wasn’t initially in the Truist field. A bit of chaos allowed him to squeeze in on his number, and both players’ gambles paid off dramatically. Reitan emerged as champion, finishing at 15 under par for a two-stroke victory.

Here is the complete payout breakdown for the 2026 Truist Championship, held at Quail Hollow Club, with a total purse of $20 million.
